This is it – the toughest, wildest South Island motorcycle tour we’ve ever created. Ride alongside Ultimate Adventure Moto NZ and KTM Adventure Ambassador & Enduro Legend Chris Birch on a brand-new, off-road-focused route that’s bigger, harder, and more remote than anything we’ve run before. Designed for experienced adventure riders only, this is five days of pure, unfiltered riding bliss.

Forget the tar seal - this tour avoids it like the plague, touching asphalt only to link one epic backcountry track to the next. From gnarly high-country 4WD trails to alpine passes, multiple river crossings and hidden station tracks, you’ll be deep in the South Island’s raw, untamed heart from start to finish. And if the weather plays nice, we’re chucking in an unforgettable scenic helicopter flight over one of NZ’s most jaw-dropping landscapes.

This exclusive tour is limited to just 12 riders. No big crowds, no tourist trails – just you, Chris Birch, and the Ultimate Adventure Moto NZ team taking on New Zealand’s most thrilling off-road adventure.

Four nights of hand-picked accommodation, with a couple of remote country overnight destinations new to the UAMNZ tour calendar, and legendary Kiwi hospitality round off each epic day in the saddle.

The Route

The southern South Island, an adventure riders ultimate experience!

Day 1 – Christchurch to Ashburton Lakes We leave Christchurch and head straight for adventure, winding through stunning farm and forestry trails to Lees Valley before tackling Porters Pass. From there, we skirt the shores of Lake Coleridge and ride into the spectacular Ashburton Lakes region. A stop at Mt Sunday (Edoras for Lord of the Rings fans) offers an epic photo opportunity before we continue deep into the high country to our secluded overnight stay.

Day 2 – Ashburton Lakes to Maniototo Our journey begins with sweeping views on the ride down through Geraldine, before we disappear into little-known backcountry gravel linking to Fairlie. We climb over Mackenzie Pass and the awesome Hakataramea Pass, then cross the iconic Danseys Pass heading to a unique location steeped in history and character for an unforgettable night.

Day 3 – Maniototo to Cromwell We head into Central Otago’s gold mining heritage via the remote, historic tracks around Lake Onslow, before dropping into Roxburgh. From there we push further south over remote alpine tracks to Waikaia and the untouched beauty of rural Southland, before riding the legendary Nevis Valley into Cromwell.

Day 4 – Cromwell to Otematata The day kicks off with the Hawksburn Track to Clyde, then through Moa Creek and into the dramatic Old Woman Range. The afternoon tackles the classic Thompsons Gorge then the epic Omarama Saddle before descending into Otematata for the night.

Day 5 – Otematata to Christchurch We ride through the privately-owned Black Forest Station, follow the Pukaki River Track, and soak up breathtaking views of Mt Cook. Our route continues along sweeping back country roads to Lake Tekapo, over the rolling terrain of a remote Station, and finishing off with a stint of tar seal for the last run home to Christchurch.

Motorcycle Hire - Your choice from available KTM models on our fleet.

Planned Routes - Pre-ridden routes, with optional extra sections for more adventurous and experienced riders.

Support Van – Support/Luggage van and driver accompanying the tour
Pre-Ride Briefings – Full route and safety briefing daily
GPS Routes – GPS devices are mounted on all bikes with pre-installed route files for full tour navigation.
Accommodation – Four nights twin share accommodation provided (single available for additional cost - see Tour Overview Guide).
Helicopter flight – Includes a spectacular alpine scenic helicopter flight experience (subject to weather)
Meals – Breakfast is included daily. Lunches, Dinners and snacks are not included and are at each individuals cost. Each break location or destination offers a range of dining options.

Pricing

Duration 5 days

Pricing starts at NZD $6,990 per person (in twin share accommodation).

The price varies depending on which KTM bike model is allocated for the tour. We have limited numbers available of each model, therefore your first choice bike selection may not be available.
